When I joined my Church (Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada), I was glad to find that it was under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. I figured, thank God it’s not entwined with all the corruption and conflict between the Kievan Patriarchate and Moscow Patriarchate.
Wrong.
Apparently, some of the most influential laity in my Cathedral are the spearhead of the Brotherhood for Revitalization of Ukrainian Orthodoxy in Canada. They are against us being under the Ecumenical Patriarchate, they are against the Russian Orthodox Church in every manner, and some of the people that I’ve actually seen at my Church are actively working to have some people I know in other Eparchies kicked out of the Church. I have a friend, who is Ukrainian is every single way, but they want him out because he’s friendly towards Russian Orthodoxy, and wears long hair as well as a beard.
I’m an Odessa-born Russian speaker who was baptized into a Moscow Patriarchate Church and conducts most of his prayers in Russian. I do not speak Ukrainian and a good percentage of my ethnic makeup is actually Russian.
I wonder what they’ll do once they find out that a katsap (derogatory term for Russophile) like me is an altar server at their Cathedral.

Proshanie Slavianki is my favourite one by far (It’s an Imperial one too!). Sacred War and Katyusha are close seconds. The Cossack’s Song is a Ukrainian one, but it’s also a great favourite!
